Spam blacklist prevention - email forwarding to Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, etc. is NOT allowed.
Article The following is due to the rising Spam epidemic throughout the Internet.

When you setup your email to forward to an address that is not on your domain (such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, etc.), if the email turns out to be Spam, many of the above providers consider *us* to be the source of the Spam. They are NOT correct of course, but this has become the trend and results in our IPs getting blacklisted. This causes problems for ALL of our customers, since no one is able to send email to that particular provider until we are de-listed. (Please note that this problem occurs with all web hosts, not only us.)

In order to keep email flowing freely to and from our servers, we have been forced to implement the following action...

As of July 1, 2007 we are no longer allowing email to be forwarded to the following ISPs:
  • Yahoo
  • AOL
  • Hotmail
  • Comcast
If you do not feel comfortable retrieving your email from our servers using an email client (such as MS Outlook, Eudora, etc.) or our Webmail interface, and you would prefer to use the email providers listed above, please give out those addresses and have people write you there directly. Do not forward your email from from a domain hosted with JCS to one of the above providers. We will be checking accounts and enforcing this policy.

Actually, you should really be using your own domain for receiving/writing email anyway, instead of a third-party service. It just makes sense. It looks more professional, and you have more control over what you can do with it. Best of all, there are no ads!! Plus, consider when you reply to forwarded messages from a Hotmail account (for example), the recipient sees your true email address anyway, so you're not hiding your identity when using forwarders.

If you're hesitant to switch just because you're not sure how to use an email program or our Webmail interface, let us know and we'll try to help you out. If you need assistance setting yourself up to retrieve email from our servers, email support@jcshosting.ca and provide your account details and what email addresses you'll be using.

(Please note, you *are* still allowed to setup email forwarders to go to domains not in the above list.)

Thank you for your cooperation.

We should add that, of course, there are always exceptions to every rule. If you NEED to forward to one of the above domains for some reason, tell us your email address, where it will be forwarded to, and why, and we'll take it into consideration.
